Class schedule will be:
Sunday 9 AM – 10 AM (swim test first, be ready to get in the water at 9 AM)
Sunday- 10 AM – 7 PM (Red cross requires 9 hours of in-person training for Recertification plus the online course work)
YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS- THIS IS FOR RENEWAL STUDENTS ONLY
You must provide a copy of your current certification to the Y before the first class for verification purposes.
To become a re-certified lifeguard you must pass a swim test on the first day of class.
The swim test is three portions:
1 – The student must swim 300 yards without stopping. They can use the front crawl or breaststroke techniques.
2 – The student must be able to swim 20 yards and then surface dive to the bottom of the pool and retrieve a 10lb brick, then swim on their back with both hands holding the brick. They must get the brick and themselves out of the water within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
3 – The student must tread water without using their hands for a continuous 2 minutes, they can use any kicking technique they like for this test.
