J David Adkins currently serves as the CEO/CFO of the YMCA of Pulaski County. He provides strategic leadership to help the organization achieve its goals, including developing long-term plans, ensuring strong financial health, identifying revenue growth opportunities, and managing costs.
As the YMCA’s primary community representative, Dave builds relationships that strengthen the Y’s visibility and impact. He cultivates a high-performing team and mentors staff, works closely with the Board of Directors on planning and development, and plays a key role in fundraising. Through this work, he guides the organization in fulfilling its mission. Under his leadership the YMCA was among three finalists for the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce’s “Non Profit of the Year Award.” In 2024 David was among three finalists for “Business Executive of the Year” with the chamber.
David was a member of the Y Board of Directors for more than 17 years prior to accepting his current position in 2023. He became a member of Who’s Who at American Colleges and Universities while pursuing his BBA at Montreat College and is currently pursuing his M Div. through Wesley Biblical Seminary in Ridgeland MS. Dave also serves as the Pastor of Newbern Methodist Church in Dublin VA.
Melissa Breeden (Missy) serves as our Director of Youth Care, Abuse Prevention, and Compliance and is the heart behind Y-Excel Little Learners Academy and Y-Excel at School at the YMCA of Pulaski County.
She is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive each day. Missy works closely with staff and families to ensure every child feels supported while maintaining the highest standards of safety and program quality.
Her passion for early childhood care and unwavering commitment to youth safety help make the Pulaski County YMCA a place where children truly learn, laugh, and grow together.
In addition, she serves as our CPR/First Aid Instructor, equipping our team with the knowledge and confidence to keep our children safe.
Jeremy Dawson is the Director of Operations for the YMCA of Pulaski County. He is responsible for ensuring the organization runs smoothly and effectively so that members and program participants enjoy a high-quality experience.
Jeremy partners closely with the CEO and department leaders to develop and implement efficient systems and strengthen day-to-day operations. His work focuses on building strong teams, improving processes, maintaining safe and welcoming facilities, and supporting strategic initiatives that advance the YMCA’s impact in the community.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Jeremy blends his military leadership experience with a strong educational foundation to support efficient operations, develop high-performing teams, and advance the Y’s mission-driven work.
Holly Whipp is the Director of Member Experience for the YMCA of Pulaski County. With over 18 years of dedicated service in administrative leadership and community advocacy, Holly brings a wealth of expertise and a heart for service to the YMCA of Pulaski County.
In her role as Director of Member Experience, Holly manages the Membership, Wellness, and Aquatics departments, where she is dedicated to ensuring every member receives the maximum benefit from their YMCA membership; and is continually seeking new ways to enhance our members experience through professional excellence.
Holly is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Business Management at New River Community College.
